Final Portfolio

Portfolio Project Description
This project consists of a series of four works featuring some of my favorite popular musical artists. The piece aims to comment on commercialism within art and how popular artists contribute to consumer culture. Each work centers the artist and incorporates brands they have partnered with or endorsed, as well as products or businesses they may have launched themselves. As I worked on this project, I aimed to explore how art interacts with marketing.
The artists depicted here are Beyonce, Frank Ocean, SZA, and Taylor Swift. I selected these artists because I enjoy their music and also because they are very successful in the music industry and have each crafted artist personas which are brands in themselves.
I drew inspiration from Cey Adams, Wolfgang Tillmans, and VOGUE's cover art.
Piece 1 features the logos or products of L'Oréal, H&M, Beyoncé's Emporio Armani Diamond perfume, and Pespsi.
Piece 2 includes the logos of Skims and Tommy Hilfiger, as well as images from SZA's Crocs marketing campaign. The background of the piece is made with the image of the ocean that is featured on SZA's most recent album cover, for her album SOS.
Piece 3 shows Prada and the logo of Homer, which is Frank Ocean's luxury jewelry and accessories brand. Homer collaborated with Prada on a limited collection in 2021.
Piece 4 depicts the logos of Diet Coke, Apple, and Capital One, all of which have partnered with Taylor Swift.
